Listen to the news story
on the radio about a satellite.

Two American spacemen made a
successful walk in space today
to repair a research satellite.

Problems happened when the new
satellite, which cost over $2
billion to put into position,
failed to work properly.

Experts at the Space Research
Centre in the USA
discovered through tests
that two of the sunshine
panels had not unfolded correctly.

As a result of this, the satellite
was not producing enough
electricity from the sunshine to
send signals back to earth.

Yesterday the spacemen reached the
satellite.

They could see that the sunshine
panels had unfolded correctly
but that two of them had been
damaged.

Fortunately they had brought
new sunshine panels with them.

It was a simple job to take off
the damaged panels and to fix
new ones.

The whole operation took about
four hours.

The spacemen will stay in space
for one more week.

During this time they will carry
out experiments and take
photographs.

They will bring back to earth
the damaged sunshine panels
so that they can be repaired
and used again.
